August, 2010 Networking Breakfast Members, guests and a couple of newly-joining CBNers mixed and mingled at the August 27 Networking Breakfast. Barely stopping to eat, the crowd was so enthused to be meeting prospective clients and new friends. The next breakfast devoted totally to networking will be in November. This month's grant recipient was St. Vincent Pallotti High School which will use the money for tuition assistance. Development Director Joe McCall spoke of the increasing need for help with tuition caused by the present economic climate. July, 2010 Networking Breakfast At the July Networking Breakfast, Jim Greer, (pictured,) director of the Loyola Jesuit Retreat House in Faulkner, MD, explained the fundamentals of living humbly through God while being totally present to others. His talk on servant leadership was very warmly received and he has been asked to give this presentation to other groups in the Archdiocese.Loyola Retreat House strives to serve men and women who are seeking a closer union with God. Their schedule of retreats for men, women and couples, as well as other events that Loyola sponsors can be found at www.loyolaretreat.org. The Forestville Pregnancy Center, represented by Jeannette and Frank Zak, received August's grant. They are pictured with Lisa Case, CBN-PG Vice-President. Jeanette and Frank enumerated items -- 40 sonograms, 300 classes in pregnancy education, 500 pregnancy tests, rent and post-abortion counseling -- to which the grant money will be applied.
June, 2010 Networking Breakfast Senator Jim Rosapepe and his wife, Sheilah Kast (pictured,) spoke to CBN-PG when they first returned from serving as Ambassador to Romania and promised to return when they had written their book. That's what they did on Friday, June 25, touching on such topics as the various orthodox churches, Dracula and the Romanian education system. They also signed books for eager purchasers. Incoming President Tony Laubach (pictured) urged members to pay their outstanding dues, talked about the two fundraisers and promised an upgraded website which will include pictures of members. Pictures can be emailed, or arrangements will be made to photograph members at future breakfasts. St. Columba was the grantee. Pat Bulcavage and Danielle Manning Halsey (pictured with CBN-PG Vice President Lisa Case,) stated that the money will be used to enhance technology. ![]() 12th Annual Awards Dinner & Auction
April, 2010 Networking Breakfast There were many unfamiliar faces at the April Power Networking Breakfast, due to the diligence of devoted CBN-PG members who brought colleagues from as far away as Prince Frederick. One first-timer, Bill Servais, even brought treats: Velatis Caramels, from their new store in Silver Spring. Native Washingtonians remember these confections from the former Woodward and Lothrop department store. Now they are being sold again in the DC region. Membership Chairman Tony Laubach encouraged those present to move around and make as many contacts as possible in the time allowed. Pictured above are newcomer Julia Rivas, a Certified Long-Term Care advisor, getting to know the ropes from dedicated CBN'er Ann O'Hare of St. Matthias School. Fr. Kyle Ingels, chaplain of the Catholic Student Center at the University of Maryland, was the grant recipient. The money will be used to assist students attend their many catechetical programs. March, 2010 Networking Breakfast At the March Networking Breakfast, Edward J. Johnson III, President and CEO of the Better Business Bureau of Metro DC, spoke about how his organization helps businesses and customers stay honest.Since 1920, the BBB has promoted the highest ethical relationships between business and the public, They accomplish this through voluntary self-regulation, consumer and business education, and service rankings. With online communication, businesses can be ruined or scams perpetuated like never before. Johnson explained to the 50 attendees that the BBB tries to counteract fraud and other schemes online. He said his work is enccouraging, since it strives to create a better climate for doing business.. Judy Walsh-Mellett and Wendy Shenk-Evans of Christian Family Montessori School, thanked CBN-PG for March's grant. The school will use the money for scholarships, they said.
